Wrestling great Maruti Dnyanu Mane no more

Mane, who was born in Kavatepiran village, first tasted international success when he won the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta.

Hind Kesari wrestler and former Rajya Sabha member Maruti Dnyanu Mane (75) passed away after a brief illness in Miraj  on Tuesday.

Mane, who was born in Kavatepiran village, first tasted international success when he won the gold medal at the 1962 Asian Games in Jakarta.

He won a bronze medal at the International Wrestling Championship in Russia in 1963. In 1967, he gave a tough fight to world champion  Alexander Medved of Russia in Manchester. Mane received the Shiv Chhatrapati Award in 1981. In 2005, he won the Dhyan Chand Award.
