48MP camera, spatial video and other key camera upgrades in Apple iPhone 15 series

Apple released much awaited new Apple products, including iPhone 15 series, Apple watches Ultra 2 and Watch Series 9. The most significant improvements for iPhones include a new USB-C port for charging, dynamic island, and cameras. Apple's new iPhone 15 series comes with significant camera upgrades, offering enhanced imaging capabilities across the lineup.

iPhone 15 Pro camera: Expanding focal lengths

Both the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max retain the 48MP main sensor. However, Apple's hardware-software integration now emulates the effect of seven different camera lenses, providing 24mm, 28mm, and 35mm focal length equivalents. Notably, the iPhone 15 Pro Max boasts a 5X telephoto lens (120mm equivalent), while the 6.1-inch iPhone 15 Pro offers a 3X lens.

Building on the previous year's 48MP ProRAW mode, the iPhone 15 Pro models now support 48MP HEIF images with four times the resolution. Additionally, users can capture 4K60 video in ProRes format and create 'Spatial Videos' for immersive experiences with the Apple Vision Pro headset.

iPhone 15 camera upgrades: Dual cameras with three focal lengths

The iPhone 15 standard models also receive substantial camera enhancements. They now feature the flagship 48MP camera sensor, delivering a '2x Telephoto option' for three optical zoom levels and 24MP image capture for detailed shots.

Furthermore, Apple introduces 'next-generation portraits' on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus, offering better low-light performance and more detailed portrait photography without the need to switch to portrait mode.
