The wonders of the galaxy are now at your fingertips. Astronomers have compiled the largest image of the Milky Way ever made, comprised of 46 billion pixels. The project is the result of images gathered by continuous scanning over five years.
Astronomers at the Ruhr University Bochum in Germany created the image from 268 individual stills of the Milky Way Galaxy, including detailed images of the Sun and Earth. The pictures were obtained from telescopes in the Atacama Desert in Chile. While anyone can access the image, it requires a special tool to view, that you can find here. The enormous image is a whopping 194GB in size, and is composed of shots from various angles, and run through a multitude of filters.
You can use the online tool to minutely zoom into any feature of the galaxy, and is also searchable for information.
