Facebook’s chief operating officer Sheryl Sandberg who recently sold more than 100 million dollars worth of the company’s shares and is number six on Forbes’ list of most powerful women has been reportedly slammed for an ad seeking editorial interns for Lean In to work for free.

According to News.com.au, the ad for Lean In, an organisation which seeks to advance the role of women in the workplace, got wide range of angry responses accusing Sandberg of making millions and not paying interns a market wage.

An angry commentator Nick Wurl said that Sandberg’s ‘Lean In’ campaign is merely for personal gain or publicity and she doesn't really seek any kind of real equality.

Another respondent Renea Henry said that people work for no wages at Sandberg's vanity project while she asks why there are no other women at the table willing to change the world.

Editor Jessica Bennet who had posted the ad while defending herself said that since she joined Lean In, many people have asked if they could volunteer and it was her post looking for a volunteer to help her in New York adding that it was not an official Lean In job posting and apologised for the confusion.

However, people were not convinced and pointed that if she wanted a ‘volunteer’ she should have mentioned that in the ad and not asked for ‘interns’, the report added.
