The 'Make Me Asian' app, which made it possible for users to make slanted eyes, wear a paddy hat, sport a Fu Manchu mustache, and change the colour of their faces to yellow, was developed by app developer Kimbery Deiss, Stuff.co.nz reports.

According to the description given on the app, a user can change himself into an Asian for a few moments, the report said.

Another Google app by the same developer, known as 'Make Me Indian', broadened a person's nose, gave them long black hair, war paint and a feathered headband, in the form of a Native American, the report added.

Peter Chin, a Washington DC pastor, organized an online protest against the 'Make Me Asian' app at Change.org.

Online activist group, 18 Million Rising, also joined the effort with their own petition, which was signed by 10, 000 people.

Google released a statement saying that they don't comment on individual apps and remove apps from Google Play that violate their policies.
