According to IDC’s Asia Pacific Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker (November 2015 release,) Lenovo emerges as the fourth largest smartphone brand in India with a market share of 9.5 percent compared to its Q2 2015 share of 6.4 percent. By value, the brand now occupies the third position occupying an 11 percent share of the market.
The company’s overall sales have risen 72 percent year on year compared to the same quarter last year. Sales of 4G units have contributed significantly to this increase, rising by over 132 percent this quarter as compared to Q2 2015, with over 3.8 million 4G devices sold from the start of this year to date.
Their popular K3 Note is currently being manufactured in India in the company’s manufacturing facility in Sriperambudur, Chennai. Lenovo recently crossed a milestone of selling 1 million units of this phone in the country. Other key products such as the A6000, A7000, A6000 Plus along with the newly-launched A2010 and Vibe Shot have also been responsible for contributing to these numbers.
According to IDC’s report, 28.2 million smartphones were shipped to India in the third quarter of 2015; up 21.4 percent from 23.2 million units for the same period last year. In the third quarter, 4G-enabled devices have witnessed a nearly threefold increase in unit shipments over the previous quarter in 2015.
