Xiaomi unveils affordable Redmi 4 series with full metal body

Xiaomi's latest offering of Redmi 4 series focuses on budget market for all types of users.

Xiaomi launched three new smartphones -- Redmi 4, Redmi 4A and Redmi Prime -- at an event in Beijing. The Redmi 4A is the most affordable in the Redmi 4 series, which will retail at CNY 499 (approximately Rs 4,999) while the Redmi 4 and the Redmi 4 Prime will cost CNY 699 (approximately Rs 6,999) and CNY 899 (approximately Rs 8,999), respectively. All three smartphones will be available for pre-orders starting November 7 while the devices are expected to begin shipping from November 11. There is no word to when the phones will launch in India. 

Starting with the most affordable out of the three, the Redmi 4A sports a 5- inch HD IPS display which will be powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 425 SoC on a quad-core processing platform. It harbours 2GB RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, which can be expanded up to 128GB on a hybrid (SIM/mircoSD) slot. In terms of optics, it will feature a 13-megapixel rear camera and 5-megapixel front lens for selfies. The device comes with a 3120mAh battery with a fast charging feature. The Redmi 4A will be available in Gold and Rose Gold colour options to choose from.

Coming to the midrange variant, the Redmi 4 sports a 5- inch HD IPS display powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 SoC. Just like the Redmi 4A, it is coupled with 2GB RAM and 16GB of inbuilt storage, (expandable up to 128GB on a hybrid slot). Coming to the camera, the phone features a 13-megapixel rear camera and a 5-megapixels camera for selfies. The device also comes with a 4100mAh battery that supports fast charging and is available in colours variants like gold, silver and dark grey.
 
The Redmi 4 Prime, aka as Pro, is the high-end smartphone in the Redmi 4 segment. The phone sports a 5-inch FHD IPS display and is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 SoC. It is equipped with 3GB RAM and 32GB of inbuilt storage (expandable up to 128GB via a hybrid slot). The Redmi 4 Prime comes with a 13-megapixel camera with dual tone LED flash and 5-megapixel front camera. Like the Redmi 4, this device also comes with a 4100mAh battery with a fast charging feature.
 
All the three phones will run on Android Marshmallow with an OS MIUI 8 skin on top.
