You can no longer download Paytm on iOS: Here’s why

Due to demonetization in India, some of the country’s largest mobile wallets, such as Paytm, generated a lot of business in the past few months. However, many iOS users have been reporting issues on the app, which could be blamed on the sudden surge in traffic. And now, due to a bug or technical issues, the app has vanished from Apple’s App Store. The company has acknowledged the issue and promises an update soon.

Paytm explained via a blog post, “Today we found a bug in our iOS App where certain app users were not able to pay thereby hanging their app. Soon the system logged them out preventing them from further accessing their account. We are sending an app update to Apple immediately and requesting them to approve the same as soon as possible. Once live, we request our users to update their iOS app.” Paytm has also assured users that their money and data is safe and the bug is a minor issue.

According to a report, a Paytm spokesperson attributed the outage to challenges the company is facing with sudden jump in number of users and associated traffic. The spokesperson said that Paytm has added 20 million new users in last 40 days taking the total number of registered users with us to 170 million. "Furthermore, we are seeing much higher interaction per user as compared to earlier and are also witnessing continuous increase in the traffic on our platform.”

He added, “At the evening peak hour today, we witnessed three times the traffic of the last peak that we handled. As we continue to route the traffic to new servers and install additional capacity, certain customers are facing the time out," the spokesperson said.
