Bharti Singh

Bharti Singh, who is taking a month-long break from TV post her wedding, will return to the small screen with the comedian

Bharti Singh is all set to the tie the knot with beau Harsh Limbachiyaa on December 3. The bride-to-be is busy preparing for the D-Day with dress rehearsals, bachelorette party, bangle ceremony and other rituals before she flies to Goa on the November 30 for the destination wedding. The Punjabi kudi will be celebrating every ritual that leads up to the marriage including haldi, mehendi, and sangeet. “I have attended several weddings and I wanted one where my friends from the TV industry can perform,” she smiles.

From Kapil Sharma, Krushna Abhishek to Maniesh Paul, everyone will be in attendance at the Goa wedding. “It’s a three-day holiday,” says Bharti, who will be jetting off to Europe for a month-long honeymoon later. Once she is back she is planning to join Kapil on his show, which is slated to return early next year. Here, the popular comedian talks about her wedding plans, her equation with Kapil, Krushna and more..

Are you all set for the wedding?

Yes! Seven years after Harsh and I started dating each other, we will be tying the knot. Harsh was keen on having a simple marriage followed by a reception. But I am a family type of person and a Punjabi at that, so I wanted to celebrate all the traditions that are involved in a marriage. Harsh immediately agreed and said, ‘Do it any way you want, big or small, I will contribute half the amount whether it’s Rs 50 lakhs, one crore, or one hundred!’ I want all my friends from the TV industry to be a part of it.

You recently released a pre-wedding music video. What was the idea behind it?

Frankly, it wasn’t my idea or Harsh’s. A YouTube channel is making a web series on our wedding and this song is a part of it.

When they approached me for the video, I laughed it off saying, ‘Main toh comedy karti hoon. How will I do a romantic song?’ But they said we can do it and I also thought it will be something memorable, which we can show our kids and say, ‘Mummy papa bhi kabhi hero, heroine bane the!’ Also, the video is about this girl who thinks she is not beautiful or special, but the guy who loves her says, meri nazar se dekho tum kitni khoobsurat ho. I loved the lyrics and it is reasonating with the audience, who are liking the song and the video.

Tell us something about how your love story began?

Harsh and I first met on the set of Comedy Circus, where he was the writer of the show. He was a very shy person and could not make eye contact while talking. He proposed to me on BB Messenger and was worried about how I will react. What I liked about the proposal was he didn’t say I love you or use any flattery. Instead, he asked if I would marry him. I accepted his proposal seeing his commitment towards the relationship.

Will you be taking a break from TV now?

Yes, because we have planned our honeymoon to Europe for a month. However, I will be going 10 days after the marriage during which, I will do some one-off episodes. Once I return, Kapil Sharma and I will reunite on his show early next year.

You have worked with Kapil and Krushna Abhishek. Who has a better sense of humour?

Kapil is extremely witty and good at one-liners. His tongue is his biggest weapon, acche acchon ko chup kara deta hai. As for Krushna, one cannot beat him in pagalpanti once he is on stage — whether he becomes a woman, or somebody else, he is bang-on. So, when I do a show with Kapil as the kid Laali, he also at times becomes speechless because a kid can ask anything to which he doesn’t have an answer! With Krushna, I up my madness quotient.

You are one person who has worked with both comfortably despite their rivalry...

(Cuts in) Just because they did different shows, people say they are rivals. But I know the inside story. Nobody writes about the times we meet and party. I never had a problem working with either of them. I have always had fun. I wish all the three of us do a show together — tehelka mach chayega

You have been friends with Kapil for a long time. How do you see his professional growth?

I know him since the past nine years. Actually he was my teacher who used to give me tips when we would do comedy skits in college. So, to share the same platform and work with him is a great feeling. As far as his growth is concerned, I would say, agar kisiko grow hona hai toh Kapil ke jaise. He started doing shows on a local cable channel, came on to national television and is now doing Bollywood films. It’s a big thing for a comedian to become the hero of a film.

On the personal front, however, Kapil seems to be battling with health problems. What do you think has gone wrong?

That man has been working on his film, Firangi, since the past two years, it is his home production. People said he was drinking but the fact is he was simultaneously shooting for his film and the show. He would travel to Rajasthan, Punjab and Amritsar for his film, shoot for it, and come back for his show. Even a mazdoor can’t do so much work. I was with him and he was suffering from low blood pressure; his sugar levels would drop and he would have weakness. He had dark circles under his eyes, and I would tell him, ‘Kapilbhai time pe khana, rest lena’. He needed a break and I am glad he did that. I wish him all the best for his movie and hope ke khushi khushi woh meri shaadi mein aaye.
