International Men's Day: Ned Stark, Jon Snow in 'Game of Thrones', Phil Dunphy in 'Modern Family'; best family men on TV

Milo Ventimiglia stole our hearts with Jess character in Gilmore Girls. And, now he is still winning our hearts as he portrays the character of Jack Pearson in This is Us. The show’s latest season – season 11, is currently airing in India on Star World.

Jack Pearson is never afraid to showcase his emotions or shed a tear. He can accept his faults and look out for his family. The ideal husband, a father and a friend, this man is an ode to masculinity that defines in its truest sense.

Chief. Fighter. Best Dad! He will protect you from all dangers! Not just those alien-looking creatures, he will also beat up your bad boyfriend. He will spend some good time with you. Jim Hopper from Stranger Things (streams on Netflix), played by David Harbour, is one such character whom you will always look at with great respect. Whenever you need him, he will be there by your side with his signature hat! Later in the show, Hopper becomes a father figure to Eleven while searching for her biological mother, culminating in her adoption. 

Another one from the world of Westeros is Jon Snow! The bastard son of Ned Stark is a good brother and till the very end, stayed true to his brotherly duty. And not just how good he was to Arya and Sansa, he was honest, true and objective, in well almost all of his doings. 

Ozark, Netflix’s thriller show has got one great father figure, saving his family from the world of evil! Well, trying to. This show, which most times reminds me of Breaking Bad, has this mild-mannered financial planner who moves his wife and kids to a low-key village owing to the money-laundering-for-a-drug-cartel thing! A serious guy, he plays a father figure not just sticking to his kids, but also Ruth, one of the persons who was hell-bent on killing him! 

Jason Bateman makes it to this list once again! Always there to sing “Afternoon Delight,” to help out with maritime law, or make a cornball - Michael Bluth, played by Jason Bateman, is always trying to do what he can to keep the family together. You see him guide his son, his brothers, his father who keeps vanishing and yet, does it all with the calm that is surprising to most. 

Played by Sean Bean, this character is the ultimate father figure. After all, all of his kids have turned out the most capable and sane, and he had six of them (maybe seven)! Even Theon wasn’t awful until he reunited with his real dad. He has had some of the best parenting moments. He understood Arya wasn’t interested in ‘girly’ things and arranged for her to get sword training. He made sure to start teaching Bran at a young age, but old enough, how to rule nobly. And he gave his kids dire wolves! #CoolestDadEver. All seasons of Game of Thrones are currently airing in India on Star World. 

Ty Burell plays the role of the coolest and the sexiest dad – Phil Dunphy from Modern Family. Although he most times ends up being the embarrassing one, still he is the best. No doubt about that! No matter whatever he does, he always tries his best in everything as he says in the series (it airs on Star World in India), "I think once I fail enough as a dad, I'll be looking for help wherever I can get it. I just need enough time to screw things up and then I'll start looking to TV dads for advice."  Goofy at times, Phil Dunphy slays nonetheless!

Making it very last in this list is Walter White from Breaking Bad. Though many would straight disagree his making to this list, I must say that fathers aren't perfect. Every son, daughter, mother, and father himself knows this.

Yes, he destroyed his family and eventually saw a bitter end, but Walter White’s original intentions were pure and are a perfect example of the moral and financial struggles of working-class America. His love for his wife, his crippled son and the unborn baby, in a way many would disagree though, forced him to enter into something that stuck with him till the end of it all.
