A still from Khichdi

This is the first time that a sitcom here is experimenting with this format, which has been seen in the hit international show Friends

The wacky comedy, Khichdi, which is returning with a third season after a decade will not only have all the original characters of the show, but also new ones joining them. We have learnt that this season will have 52 episodes and every episode will have a known TV actor making a walk-in appearance. This is the first time that a sitcom here is experimenting with this format, which has been seen in the hit international show Friends.

Says a source, “Actors are being cast in roles contrary to their image — Renuka Shahane will be seen as a Don, Bhaktiyar Irani as a conman, Deepshikha Nagpal as a doctor, Debina as a painter, etc. These characters will have an impact on the Parekh family in a hilarious way. Also, you will see popular actors from serials like Baa Bahoo Aur Baby and Sarabhai Vs Sarabhai appearing in Khichdi. Whether they will play the original characters from their respective shows or play some other characters is yet to be decided. For instance, Ratna Pathak Shah could appear as Maya Sarabhai and in her inimitable way call the Parekhs LS (Low Society) or she could play some other character. The options have been kept open.”

The show is likely to go on air in January.
