The court has issued a notice to the state government and complainant who filed an FIR against the makers of 'Mirzapur', seeking a reply.

On Friday, actor, and producer Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani got a big relief in the case against Amazon Prime Video's 'Mirzapur' web series. Allahabad High Court banned the arrest of both Farhan and Ritesh and has also issued a notice to the state government and complainant who filed an FIR against the makers of 'Mirzapur', seeking a reply.

For the uninformed, a petition was filed in the court, seeking cancellation of the FIR. The Court prohibited the arrest of Farhan and Ritesh after the hearing. The order was passed by the Division Bench of Justice MK Gupta and Justice Virendra Kumar.

For those who are unaware, an FIR was lodged in Uttar Pradesh against the makers of Mirzapur in Kotwali Dehat police station by Arvind Chaturvedi, a local journalist who has also written a book on the life of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

In his police complaint, Chaturvedi said that the plot and dialogues of the web series have hurt his "religious, social and regional sentiments" and that it has provided a wrong portrayal of Mirzapur city.

The FIR named executive producers of the series Ritesh Sidhwani, Farhan Akhtar, and Bhaumik Gondaliya and Amazon Prime Video platform, where the series has been running. The FIR was registered under section 295 (A) 505 IPC 67 (A) IT Act.

In September 2020, a day after 'Mirzapur 2' was released, Member of Parliament from Mirzapur constituency Anupriya Patel had also demanded action against the web series alleging that the show is maligning the image of the Uttar Pradesh city by portraying it as a 'violent' region.

The FIR on Mirzapur follows the case lodged against Tandav on charges of hurting the religious sentiments of Hindus.
