The makers of popular sitcom Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah recently confirmed the ouster of actress Disha Vakani from the show and said that the hunt to find a new Dayaben has already begun. Now, as per a Times of India report, Chidiya Ghar actress Ami Trivedi has been approached to play the role.
However, when the daily called her up to confirm the same, Ami denied the rumours saying, “No, I have not been approached, but my friends have been telling me that I should take up the role and would suit the character. I have not been offered the role, nor the makers have tried to reach me out."
Although she denied the news, Times of India still maintained that that the makers are indeed considering her for the role.
Ami is best known for her roles of Kittu in Kituu Sab Janti Hai (2005–06) and Kokila in Papad Pol (2010–11). She has also featured in popular shows like Khichdi, Kumkum- Ek Pyra Sa Bandhan and Chidiya Ghar. She is also a popular name in the theatre community in Gujarat.
When asked if she would be interested in taking up the role if the makers approach her, Ami said, “It is a huge responsibility and would be difficult for any artist to fill into the big boots of Disha Vakani. I am sure any actor who replaces her would have to face bricks and stones at the beginning because Disha has been associated with Taarak Mehta... for 10 long years and the audience love her. I can't comment on your question till the time I am approached the show. Once the makers offer me the role, I will be in a better position to talk.”
Asit Modi, the producer of Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah recently confirmed replacing Disha Vakani in a statement to Indianexpress.com. He said, "There are women who take maternity breaks and then resume work. We have given Disha leave and now we cannot wait more so will have to start looking for a new Dayaben. We will have to replace her, for the audience who have waiting for Daya's return. And as it's said, the show must go on."
Disha went on a maternity break in September 2017 and has been missing on 'Taarak Mehta..' ever since.
