69th Emmy Awards are here! Stephen Colbert is hosting one of TV's biggest awards night (day for us folks in India). Things got a lot more political the moment Colbert began his monologue. US president Donald Trump was the subject of many jokes and jabs. Former White House Communications Director, Sean Spicer on stage was a shocking, yet hilarious surprise!
Looking at the winner's list, Nicole Kidman and Reese Witherspoon's Big Little Lies has taken most of the awards for the Limited Series section. Hulu's The Handmaid's Tale won Best Drama Series and Elizabeth Moss won her first ever Emmy for playing Margaret Atwood's Offred. Surprisingly the Television Academy hasn't shown much love to Ryan Murphy and his creation, FEUD: Betty and Joan. Another major snub was HBO's sci-fi drama Westworld.
Comedy sketch show Saturday Night Live won the most awards in the comedy section. Donald Glover of Atlanta took two trophies for acting and for directing. Julia Louis-Dreyfus found another way of making Emmys history after winning the best comedy actress award for the sixth year in a row for her show Veep.
Sterling K Brown of This Is Us won for the second year in a row, so did John Oliver and the crew for their show Last Week Tonight With John Oliver.
