The third season of Ekta Kapoor's hit supernatural drama - Naagin, is all set to return to our television screens. The first two seasons starred Mouni Roy, Adaa Khan, Sudha Chandran and Aashka Goradia in lead roles. Mouni aka Shivanya, who has taken the Bollywood flight, was killed at the end of season two; thus warranting for a new cast. The third season will see Surbhi Jyoti, Karishma Tanna and Anita Hassanandani taking the centre stage. The much-awaited show will also feature Pearl V Puri, Rajat Tokas, Ankit Mohan, Rakshanda Khan and Chetan Hansraj in pivotal roles.
After teasing us with two promos, Ekta Kapoor finally dropped the teaser of the show today and we must say the czarina of television seems to have taken the genre to another level altogether. In keeping with the show's main theme of revenge and love, the new season will also see 'naagins' coming back from the dead to seek revenge from the killers of their lovers. While the second promo established that Rajat Tokas will be playing Karishma Tanna's partner, it still remains to be seen as to how will the three couples' stories will be intertwined.
While it's Anita and Karishma's 'Naagin' looks that have got everyone talking, it's Surbhi Jyoti who will be playing the role of Bela, the protagonist. She will be a shown as a simple girl whose life will change after her father's death. This is the first time when Surbhi is doing a supernatural show. She shot to fame with Zee TV's prime time show Qubool Hai and later appeared in popular shows like Ishqbaaz and Koi Laut Ke Aaya Hai. “The show is based on revenge. It is not a new concept. We have grown up watching Naagin’s stories on film and television. Of course, Naagin is our own wonder woman,” Surbhi said at the launch of the show.
Karishma Tanna, who has been away from the fictional space for a long time, will portray the role of Naagin Ruhi on the show. Talking about her character, the actor said, “Naagin has been an iconic show and being able to portray Ruhi is an honour for me."
Anita Hassanandani, who earlier garnered huge love for playing Shagun's character in Balaji Telefilms' another successful daily-soap Yeh Hai Mohabbatein, will be playing the role of Naagin Vishakha. “It is a difficult character to portray. The brief given to me was that you are doing bitchy stuff, but it shouldn’t look bitchy. So it is a very subtle thing. When you do regular soaps, there is a bit of overacting. So I had to take care of underplaying it," Anita said at the launch.
Talking about the inevitable comparisons to the previous cast, Anita added, “In television, the script is the king and the credit goes to Balaji Telefilms. There is so much drama and intrigue that you want to watch more. I am sure that after Naagin 3, people would want a Naagin 4. This also means that the pressure to be accepted is high. At some point, I did feel some pressure that it is already so popular with a cast including Mouni Roy. I just told myself that it is all about your giving your 100 per cent."
Naagin 3, which premieres on June 2, will air every weekend in its old time-slot of 8 pm on Colors.
