Actor-comedian Sunil Grover took to social media on November 21 to announce the cast of his brand new show titled, 'Kanpur Wale Khuranas'. "Namaste from Kanpur wale Khuranas. They all are hoping to bring a smile on your face. Soon on Star Plus," Grover wrote.
The show will star actors like Kunal Kemmu, Ali Asgar, Upasana Singh, Adaa Khan, Sugandha Mishra among others. 'Kanpur Wale Khuranas' will mark the television debut of Bollywood actor Kunal Kemmu, who has been a part of several popular comedies like 'Golmaal Again', 'Dhol' and 'Golmaal 3' among others. He will be seen playing the role of Sunil’s saala (brother-in-law) while Adaa will reportedly play Sunil's wife. The team has already started shooting and the show is expected to go on air from December 15 on Star Plus.
Sunil told news agency PTI in a statement, "I am happy to be back on the small screen with a fresh concept. This character is unlike any I've played before and I am very excited to embark on this journey of entertaining my viewers."
"The show is sure to charm everyone alike with a theme that resonates with the viewers and keep them hooked onto their television screens at night," he added.
Meet the cast of Kanpur Wale Khuranas, here:
Sunil's frenemy Kapil Sharma will return to TV a few days later with his show on December 23. DNA After Hrs had earlier reported that the new comedy show will be a round up of the happenings in 2018 and a prelude to what is coming up in 2019.
“It will be based on the jija-saali concept with Sunil playing the brother-in-law. In the North, a lot of importance is given to the jija and everyone takes care to not upset him. The makers will be playing on that. In the show he will have seven saalis and it will have the feel of a Badhaai Ho meeting Bareilly Ki Barfi,” a source close to the development revealed.
While speaking about 'Kanpur Wale Khuranas', Sunil told Mumbai Mirror, “I have some saalis and a saala played by Kunal (Kemmu). My character is a pampered jijaji who gets respect because of his position in the family."
The programme will have celebrities and film stars coming in to promote their films. While the round-up will cover various aspects, Bollywood will be the biggest highlight and gags will be designed around hits like Stree, Sanju and Padmaavat, big weddings like Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra-Nick Jonas, films like Thugs Of Hindostan, ban on plastic, the World Cup and MS Dhoni etc.
The show will be produced by sister duo Preeti and Neeti Simoes. Interestingly, the sisters had earlier backed 'The Kapil Sharma Show' and 'Comedy Nights with Kapil'.
While the announcement has left Sunil's fans excited about his return to television, those who have been waiting for the actor-comedian to reunite with Kapil are left disappointed. As per Mumbai Mirror, Sunil's 'Bharat' co-star Salman Khan is trying hard to persuade him to be a part of Kapil's show, which he is reportedly producing.
When asked to comment on the same, Sunil clarified, “I’ve been busy with Bharat which has taken up most of my dates. Since my show is for a limited tenure, I could squeeze in the shoot in the gap in my schedule. His is a long-running show and I’m not part of the it so far."
Sunil famously played Dr Mashoor Gulati and Rinku bhabhi in The Kapil Sharma Show, which he quit after his fight with the show's host Kapil Sharma.
