Life has come full circle, says songstress Neha Kakkar, as she readies to judge the 10th edition of Indian Idol that will go on air on July 7. “I was a contestant on the second season of the show, so, when I got the opportunity to judge this year, I instantly took it up. Being a participant earlier and now judging the same show feels awesome,” she coos. The singing talent hunt returns to television after nine years. The Chhote Chhote Peg (Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety) hitmaker tells us about the show and her equation with Himash Kohli, whom she has been romantically linked with.
AN ‘IDOL’ SITUATION
Having been a reality show contestant once makes Neha more sensitive towards the participants. “I can relate to what the contestants are going through since I was in their position at one time,” she explains. Reality shows may get a bad rap from many but according to the young singer, they are a great way to showcase talent. “They help you learn the art better and face the world with confidence,” she says, adding that even though some may think that the X factor requisite in her show takes away from the real singing, it is important in today’s times. “Of course, there cannot be a compromise on singing. That’s a prerequisite. However, the X factor helps connect with the audiences, which is important to spread your talent as far as possible,” according to her.
VOICING HER OPINION
Neha joins Vishal Dadlani and Anu Malik in the panel of judges but being the junior most does not make her nervous nor will she be overtly cautious while voicing her opinion if there’s a disagreement. “All three of us are judges and have the right to express our opinion in a fair manner. I respect Anuji’s and Vishal’s opinion and I have been taking a stand to whatever I feel is right whenever needed,” asserts the Badri Ki Dulhania crooner.
COME A LONG WAY
For someone who was eliminated in the show early on to becoming a successful name in the music world, Neha says that her ride has been beautiful. “I am living my dream. I have reached where I am today with God’s grace and unconditional family support,” says the girl who has a few things to look forward in Bollywood and non-film music, but cannot talk about them yet.
IS HIMANSH HER HUMSAFAR?
Neha’s single with Himansh Kohli, Oh Humsafar, raked in over 10 million views. She and the Yaariyaan actor have been called a couple for a while. What’s brewing? Neha laughs and says, “We are best friends. He is someone I trust completely.” After their mega successful duet, is there another collaboration to look forward to? “There are lots of surprises in store. Wait and watch!” Neha concludes.
