Pehredaar Piya Ki

Producer Sumeet Mittal says the channel and the makers took a mutual decision to get 'Pehredaar Piya Ki' off air

'Pehredaar Piya Ki' has created controversy right from the start. Ever since the show's promos were out everyone questioned that how low could Indian Television stoop to by showing 18 year old girl getting married to a 9 year old boy. Swaragini actress Tejesswi Prakash played the lead role of Princess shown marrying a young boy half her age followed by suhag raat scenes to creep audience out.

After a public campaign to ban the show, criticism for being regressive and even time slot being changed, the channel has now decided to pull the show off air. Sony even issued an official statement saying, "Effective 28th August 2017, we are pulling off our programme, Pehredaar Piye Ki, from television. While we understand that the decision to end this serial will be disappointing to those whose creative energies are vested in it, namely, its crew and cast, we (as a channel) are convinced that we will be better served by focusing instead on developing viewer interest in our upcoming, new shows. We are grateful to all the artists, producers and fans of our shows and request you to graciously support the viewership of our newer ventures.”

Rumour mills are also abuzz that the channel this decision under I&B Minister Smriti Irani's pressure on them and some say that the makers of the show and the channel are at loggerheads. But that's not true. According to Bollywood Life report, the producer of Pehredaar Piya Ki is planning to return with the show soon. Sumit Mittal who heads Shashi Sumeet Productions said,  “No, these reports are absolutely wrong. Taking the show off air was a mutual decision between us and broadcasters.” He also confirmed that they will renew the content to make it apt for prime time. He said,  “We are very much working on the story right now. We are developing the content for an earlier time slot. Due to the late time slot, we decided to shut off the show and come back with a renewed story, which would answer all the objections that viewers had from the concept.”

When asked about the compensation since the makers had invested quite a bit for the outdoor shoot, he said it was too early to talk about compensation. But unaffected by the controversies said, “Yes, it is 100 percent, we will be back soon,” he stated.

While the date for the comeback is yet to be finalised as they need to get the story in place, the producer said it will be in regular prime time slot. Seems like the makers will only retain the title of the show, rest everything is going to be revamped.
