Kit Harington as Robert Catesby in 'Gunpowder'

Harington and his mate Daniel West pitched for the show and are producing it as well.

Apart from working for Game of Thrones, Kit Harington was also busy making a three episode long miniseries Gunpowder based on the early 17th century 'Gunpowder Plot.'

On Sunday, BBC released a new trailer for the series in which we get a good look at Harington's character. Jon Snow of Game of Thrones plays Robert Catesby who was actually the mastermind behind the Catholics' assassination plan of King James I.

Generally, Guy Fawkes is given credit of hatching the plan, but it was Catsbey who hatched the plan and Fawkes, along with Thomas Percy, decided to execute it.

Actor Tom Cullen of Downton Abbey fame plays Guy Fawkes. Harington plays Catsbey who was actually the actor's maternal ancestor. Liv Tyler plays Catsbey's cousin and co-conspirator, Anne Vaux. Mark Gatiss of Sherlock plays Robert Cecil, the King's spymaster.

In November 1605, Robert Catesby organised a conspiracy of provincial Catholics in England against King James I. They planned to blow the British House of Lords and assassinate the King there. Obviously, the plan was unsuccessful, but since then November 5 is celebrated as 'Guy Fawkes Night' or 'Bon Fire Night' in England.
