Celebrated industrialist Ratan Tata on Friday took to Instagram to flag a quote about linking 'liquor sales through Aadhaar card' that was wrongly attributed to him. The widely shared quote, attributed to Ratan Tata, said, "Liquor sales should be sold through Aadhaar card. Government food subsidies should be stopped for alcohol buyers."

The Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons flagged the post fake, sharing a 'Fake News' GIF, and wrote, "This was not said by me. Thank you."

This is not the first time that the celebrated industrialists have been wrongly attributed to a viral quote. Last year, a quote “huge downfall of economy” to the coronavirus pandemic was attributed to him was and was widely shared on social media. At that time, Ratan Tata had people verify media circulated on social media platforms, including WhatsApp, before sharing it. He had written, “If I have something to say, I will say it on my official channels."

This also comes alongside another incident when industrialist Anand Mahindra was wrong attributed for a quote on some 'life changing advice'. Mahindra on Thursday clarified that he never said those words.
