India scripted history in 2011 when they registered their second ODI World Cup title win at the Wankhede Stadium. Riding on captain MS Dhoni’s unbeaten 91, India beat Sri Lanka by 6 wickets in the final and won the coveted World Cup trophy at home.

Chasing 275, India initially faced early setbacks by losing crucial wickets of Virender Sehwag and Sachin Tendulkar. However crucial contributions from Gautam Gambhir’s 97-run knock and Dhoni's unbeaten 91 which was concluded with the winning six, helped India win the ODI World Cup title after 28 years.

However, you might be surprised to know that the bat used by Dhoni during the iconic World Cup final was sold for a staggering amount.

As per reports, three months after winning the World Cup, Mumbai-based brokerage firm RK Global bought MS Dhoni's Reebok-labelled bat for £100,000 (Rs 72 lakh approx. back then) at an auction in London.

The main motive of the event was to raise funds for MS Dhoni's wife's charitable organisation, The Sakshi Foundation, which supports underprivileged children in the country.

Dhoni’s bat which was used to hit the winning six off former Sri Lankan bowler Nuwan Kulasekara will always be remembered by Indian or cricket fans living across the world.

Dhoni announced his retirement from international cricket on August 15, 2020. During his stint, he led India to win the ICC 2007 T20 World Cup, 2011 ODI World Cup, and 2013 Champions Trophy.

He is currently the only Indian captain who has won all three ICC white-ball trophies.
