A viral video from Savarkundla, Gujarat, shows a tense stand-off between two dogs and two lions at a cowshed, captured by CCTV.

A video capturing a dramatic face-off between two dogs and two lions at a cowshed in Savarkundla, Gujarat, has gone viral on social media. The incident, which occurred late Sunday night, unfolded just 70 kilometers from the famous Gir National Park, home to the Asiatic lions.

The intense encounter was recorded by CCTV cameras installed at the cowshed's gates. The footage shows the two lions approaching the cowshed, only to be confronted by two dogs on the other side of the gate. The four animals engaged in a tense stand-off, with the gate being slammed repeatedly as they tried to get at each other. Fortunately, the sturdy iron gate prevented any direct contact, keeping the animals safe.

After the brief but intense encounter, the lions retreated into nearby bushes just seconds before a man emerged from the cowshed. Armed with a torch, he cautiously investigated the area before returning inside and securing the gates.

The lions are believed to have strayed from a nearby reserve forest area, though no official statement has been released regarding the incident.

Interestingly, this dramatic encounter occurred just a day after Gujarat celebrated World Lion Day. The state marked the occasion with various programs aimed at raising awareness about lion conservation. The forest department engaged citizens through SMS and email campaigns, while school students participated in rallies, drawing competitions, and other activities across 11 districts where lions are found.

According to the 2020 census, Gujarat is home to 674 Asiatic lions, a testament to the state's ongoing efforts to protect these majestic creatures.
