Lisa Simpson and Kamala Harris

A 2000 episode of The Simpsons seems to predict Kamala Harris beating Donald Trump for the US Presidency

US President Joe Biden dropped a shocker on Sunday as he announced he was stepping back from the US President’s race with just months to go for the election. This has meant that the Democrats have no candidate to oppose former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee. President Biden has endorsed his running mate, Vice President Kamala Harris, to take his place. And while the development took place just last night, The Simpsons seems to have predicted it 23 years ago. And as always, the prediction is eerie, to say the least.

Episode 17 of season 11 of The Simpsons, which aired back in 2000, showed Bart Simpson travelling to the future, some 20 odd years, where his sister Lisa is now the President of the United States. The episode shows Lisa in the Oval Office inside the White House, talking about taking over a lot of debt from President Trump. The episode implies that Trump became the President before Lisa and was beaten in a re-election bid by the young Simpson, who becomes the first female President of the US.

That coincidence would have been enough but Lisa is wearing a purple suit with a pearl necklace, exactly what Harris wore at Joe Biden's inauguration in 2021.

The similarities have baffled many fans, given The Simpsons’ propensity to accurately predict several real-life incidents, ranging from Trump’s presidency to several ecological disasters. One fan quipped, “The only reason the Simpsons “predicts” events is because Mossad embedded their plans into the scripts.” Another added, “This Simpsons as Prophetic has become one of the most enduring mysteries of our times!”

The Simpsons, created by Dan Castellanata, is the longest-running English-language sitcom in the world, having been on air since 1989. The animated show, which tells the story of the dysfunctional Simpsons family in the fictitious town of Springfield, has had a large impact on modern pop culture.
