Ratan Tata's family: A summary of his influential business legacy

The founder of Tata Group, Jamsetji Tata was the first child and only son of Nusserwanji Tata, the scion of a family of Parsee priests. He established India’s premier luxury hotel, the Taj Mahal Palace; steel and hydropower businesses. 

Dorabji Tata, the elder son of Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, was heir to Tata Steel and other major ventures like Tata Power after Jamsetji’s demise. 

Sir Ratan Tata, the younger son of Jamsetji, followed in his father’s footsteps and dedicated his life to philanthropic initiatives. He made generous donations to develop the nation's resources.

Tata Jehangir Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata(JRD Tata), son of Ratanji played a significant role in diversifying the Tata Group. he established Tata Airlines, which is now known as Air India. 

Naval Tata, the adopted son of Sir Ratan Tata, made valuable contributions towards the as well as in the domain of labour relations.

Ratan Tata, first son of Naval Tata from his first marriage with Sooni Commissariat. Under his leadership, Tata Group grew into a global powerhouse, while establishing a foothold in engineering and technology. 

Jimmy Tata, the younger brother of Ratan Tata, holds a major stake in companies like Tata Steel, Tata Motors, and TCS. Unlike his brother Tata, he chooses to stay from the media limelight.   

Noel Tata, born to Naval Tata from his his second wife  Simone Dunoyer. He is the chairman of Trent, the retail arm of the Tata Group. He also ventures into Tata Investment Corporation, while having ties with Tata International, Titan Company, and Tata Steel.

Neville Tata, son of Noel Tata and Aloo Mistry, works at Trent, a family-associated enterprise. He is also responsible for the expansion of Zudio stores. He is married to Manasi Kirloskar, who belongs to the Toyota Kirloskar Group. 

Leah Tata, daughter of Noel Tata, assumes a pivotal role in the hospitality sector. She serves as a trustee of Ratan Tata's Tata Hospital alongside her siblings Maya and Neville. 

Maya, the youngest daughter of Noel Tata, perpetuates the Tata family's entrepreneurial legacy. She is one of six board members managing the Tata Medical Centre Trust.
