Suriya celebrates his 48th birthday on Sunday, July 23.   On his special day, here's a look at his 6 best films with brilliant performances.

Suriya won the National Film Award for Best Actor for his excellent performance as Maara in the 2020 drama Soorarai Pottru, based on the life of Air Deccan founder Captain G. R. Gopinath.

In the 2021 legal drama Jai Bhim, Suriya played Chandru, a lawyer who fights cases for tribal communities. His character was based on the real-life advocate and judge Justice K. Chandru.

Suriya played Sanjay Ramaswamy, suffering from short-term memory loss in the 2005 action-thriller Ghajini, which was later remade in Hindi in 2008 with Aamir Khan playing the leading role.

In the 2010 action film Singam, Surya played the titular role of an honest cop fighting against the corrupt film. The movie was remade in Hindi in 2011 as Singham starring Ajay Devgn.

Suriya played the triple role of Mani, Athreya, and Sethuraman in the 2016 science-fiction action film 24. Samantha Ruth Prabhu and Nithya Menen played the supporting roles.

Suriya's first blockbuster came in 2003 as the action-thriller Kaakha Kaakha in which he played ACP Anbuselvan. Its Hindi remake titled Force starring John Abraham was released in 2011.

On his birthday today, a glimpse of Suriya's next film Kanguva has been unveiled. The epic period drama is the actor's first pan-India film and will release early next year in 3D in ten languages.
