Bollywood films that became huge hits even after facing boycott

In the last few years, several Bollywood biggies such as Laal Singh Chaddha and Samrat Prithviraj been targeted by the Boycott Bollywood trend, which impacted their box office performance adversely.

However, many Bollywood films have also went on to become huge hits despite facing these cancel culture trends. Here are five such movies, which were loved by the masses as well as the classes.

Even after facing several boycott calls for Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone's song Besharam Rang,  Siddharth Anand's Pathaan minted more than Rs 1000 crore globally and is still the highest grossing Indian film of 2023.

Brahmastra was targeted for several reasons including Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt being star kids. But, the Ayan Mukerji film became the highest grossing Hindi film of 2022 with over Rs 400 crore gross collections.

Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor faced protests from several religious groups. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali film still earned Rs 585 crore gross globally in 2018.

Aamir Khan's satirical comedy PK faced boycott calls for allegedly hurting religious sentiments. The Rajkumar Hirani film raked in over Rs 850 crore worldwide and became the highest-grossing Indian film of 2014.

In 2014, Shahid Kapoor's Haider was also targeted for its portayal of Kashmir insurgency. The Vishal Bhardwaj film became a hit as it collected over Rs 80 crore worldwide against its reported budge of Rs 45 crore.
