Dals or pulses to avoid if you have high uric acid levels

DNA WEB DESK

A high uric acid level can be the result of the body making too much uric acid, not getting rid of enough of it or both. Some lentils or pulses must be avoided in gout or high uric acid as these food items aggravate the gout attack. These may also become a great hindrance to prevent a reduction in uric acid in the blood.

Urad Daal (Black Grams)

Excessive consumption of black urad dal can increase uric acid levels in the body, which can trigger the formation of kidney stones and also calcify stones that are already present. People with gallstones or gout should limit their intake of black urad dal as it may worsen their condition.

Horse Gram (Kulthi Dal)

Horse Gram (kulthi dal) should be avoided when suffering from gout as uric acid levels are already high around the joints in gout, and legumes may contribute to further increasing acidity.

Kidney Beans (Rajma)

Rajma has high protein content and therefore, eating too much kidney beans can increase your uric acid levels.

Safed Chana (White Chickpeas)

Chickpeas contain a chemical called purine, and when broken down these purines produce excess uric acid, which results in gout.

Kala Chana (Black Chickpeas)

If you have high uric acid levels, it is best to avoid kala chana because of its high protein content.

Laal Masoor Dal (Red Lentils)

Masoor dal can be consumed but in moderation.  This content including advice provides generic information only. It is in no way a substitute for qualified medical opinion.
