Sudha Murty receives Padma Bhushan: 5 things to know about the philanthropist

Murty received the Padma Bhushan from President Droupadi Murmu on April 5. She was awarded for her contributions in the field of social work.

In 2006, 71-year-old Murty was awarded the Padma Shri for distinguished service.

An educator, author and philanthropist, she became 1st woman to work on shop floor at Telco (now Tata Motors) in 1974.

Murty retired as the chairperson of Infosys Foundation in 2021.  

She married NR Narayana Murthy. Her daughter Akshata Murty is married to UK PM Rishi Sunak.
