1. Bihar has the lowest literacy rate in India at 61.80 per cent.

2. Arunachal Pradesh is second on this list with 65.38 per cent literacy.

3. Rajasthan is the third lowest literate state with 66.11 per cent literacy.

4. Jharkhand is next with 66.41 per cent literacy.

5. Andhra Pradesh is fifth on this list at 67.02 per cent literacy.

6. Jammu and Kashmir is sixth with 67.16 per cent literacy.

7. Uttar Pradesh is next at 67.68 per cent literacy.

8. Madhya Pradesh is in the eighth position with 69.32 per cent literacy.

9. Chhattisgarh ranks ninth with 70.28 per cent literacy.

10. Assam is tenth on the list at 72.19 per cent literacy.
