The new Indian Parliament is set for a grand opening on Sunday, May 28. Unlike the circular shape of the old building, the new structure is triangular shaped.
Here’s the reason behind it.
As per Bimal Patel, the architect who designed the new Parliament House, he went for a triangular shape since it met several aspects of both design and symbolic significance.
Factor 1: Patel’s design is triangular as the building sits on a triangular plot and has three main spaces - Lok Sabha, Rajya Sabha and Central Lounge.
Factor 2: Patel said that triangles hold significance as they are “sacred geometries in various religions and cultures” of India.
Factor 3: As per the project website, the triangular shape is chosen to optimise space utilisation.
