Cumin (jeera) is an essential component of Indian cuisine and is known to have several health benefits. However, if consumed wrongly, it can have side effects. Here are some of the side-effects of jeera seeds:
Jeera has the ability to reduce blood sugar levels because of the nutrients it contains. Drinking jeera water, in case you are diabetic, is not advisable.
Rapid Lowering Of Blood Sugar Levels
Cumin seeds have gas-relieving properties. However, they might cause heartburn as well, which is a very common digestive problem.
Heartburn
Consuming large amounts of cumin seeds can lead to a miscarriage or induce premature labour in pregnant women.
Abortifacient Effects
Overconsumption of cumin may also reduce testosterone levels and affect sperm motility in men.

Oil present in cumin seeds is highly volatile and can eventually lead to liver and/or kidney damage.
Liver Damage
The carminative effect of cumin seed may cause excessive belching, which is burping which involves excess bloating and gas from the intestinal tract and stomach, making its way out through the mouth.

Side-effects of cumin seeds include mental clouding, drowsiness and nausea—which may be caused by excessive consumption of them.
