Chaitra Navratri 2024: Foods to avoid during 9 days of fasting

During the nine-day fasting period, one can detox their body, offer prayers to Maa Durga, engage in spiritual contemplation, and revitalise their mind and body.

Nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, vrat-friendly grains, when consumed in moderation and prepared in a healthy way, provide the body with optimal nourishment.

Avoid onion and garlic the ones who are fasting but even those who are not as they are considered as tamasic food.

Grains and cereals like rice, wheat, and lentils are not permitted during the Navratri fast.

Non-vegetarian meals such as chicken and mutton are mostly not consumed during Navratri fasting.

Packaged and processed foods such as chips, cookies, and ready-to-eat meals should be avoided during fasting.

Table salt, which has been refined, is not permitted during the Navratri fast.

If you are fasting for nine long days then you must stay away from fast foods, packed food, rice flour, cornflour, semolina and all the tamsik food items that include - onion, garlic, egg and meat.

Buckwheat flour, singhara poori, kuttu pakori, and aalo ki sabzi are permissible during fasting, with the exception of using turmeric.
