Gym equipment that has more bacteria than a toilet seat

A recent study indicates that gym equipment is filled with harmful bacteria, which presents health risks for those who use the gym.
Researchers from FitRated gathered samples from 27 gym machines and discovered over a million germs per square inch on each piece of equipment.
Bacteria like gram-positive cocci, known to cause skin infections, and antibiotic-resistant gram-negative rods were found on treadmills, exercise bikes, and free weights.
Notably, free weights contained 362 times more germs than a toilet seat, and treadmills had 74 times more bacteria than a public bathroom faucet.
The study emphasizes that bacteria thrive on gym equipment because it's used by many people.
Although many gyms offer disinfectant wipes, users frequently overlook cleaning the equipment before and after their workouts.
Experts advise disinfecting machines, maintaining good hygiene, refraining from touching the face, and thoroughly washing hands to minimise exposure to germs.
For extra safety, it is recommended to change out of gym clothes right after a workout.
