5 major records Virat Kohli can break in 2024

In 2023, India’s star player Virat Kohli broke several records, including the landmark record of great Sachin Tendulkar of scoring most ODI hundreds.

This year as well, cricket fans might see the fortune of one of the world’s greatest cricketers, Kohli break some long-standing records. And here are some of the massive records that Kohli eyes in 2024.

10000 Test runs

So far, the 35-year-old has scored 8790 runs in Tests and may soon hit the mark of 9000 runs. However, with around 15 Test games lined up for India in 2024, their are possibilities that Kohli may also achieve the milestone of 10000 runs.

Fastest to 14000 ODI runs

Kohli can become the third player and second Indian batter to score 14000 ODI runs mark. He has currently scored 13848 ODI runs in 280 innings and now would need 152 runs more to reach 14000 runs. He may also set a new record to score the fastest 14000 runs in ODIs. Currently, Sachin holds the record of scoring 14000 ODI runs in least innings (350).

First Indian batter to score 12000 T20 runs

Not only Test and ODIs, but Kohli is also eying for T20 records. So far, he has scored a total of 11,965 T20 runs (international + franchise leagues) and is now just 35 runs away to script history by being the first Indian batter to reach 12000 T20 runs.

Indian batters with most runs vs England

In the upcoming five match Test series lined for India against England starting from January 2024, Kohli has the opportunity to become the top run scorer for India against England across all formats. He has currently scored 3970 runs against England and would now need 21 runs more to surpass Sachin's record of scoring 3990 runs.

Most international centuries at home

Kohli also eyes the record of scoring most international tons at home. Out of Kohli’s 80 tons, 38 were made at home, he would now need five more tons to break’s Sachin record of 42 centuries made in India.
