7 cricketers retained most times in IPL history

Ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, 10 IPL franchises have announced their retention list ahead of the upcoming mega auction for the 2025 season.

While several key players were released, some were retained for the upcoming season. Let’s take a look at the players who have been retained the most times in IPL history.

MS Dhoni (CSK) - 15 times (2008 - 2015, 2018 - 2025). Dhoni was retained as an uncapped player for Rs 4 crore by Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Virat Kohli (RCB) - 17 times (2008-2025). Kohli became the second-costliest retention ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, with RCB paying him a whopping Rs 21 crore.

Rohit Sharma (MI) - 14 times (2011-2025). Ahead of IPL 2025 mega auction, Mumbai Indians retained Rohit Sharma for Rs 16.3 crore.

Sunil Narine (KKR) - 13 times (2012- 2025). KKR retained Narine for Rs 12 crore ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Kieron Pollard (MI) - 12 times (2010-2022).

Jasprit Bumrah (MI)- 12 times (2013-2025). Jasprit Bumrah has been retained by Mumbai Indians for Rs 18 crore before the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Suresh Raina (2008-2015, 2018-2021) - 11 times, although he didn’t play in 2020 due to personal reasons. He won four titles (2010, 2011, 2018, and 2021) in IPL history.
