Cricketers who have contested in Lok Sabha polls

Kirti Azad, a member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team, was elected to Parliament in 1999 from the Darbhanga constituency. 

Chetan Chauhan, former opening partner of Sunil Gavaskar, ran for office in the 1991 and 1998 elections as a member of the BJP and emerged victorious in both instances.

The legendary MAK Pataudi ran for a seat in the Lower House from Gurugram in 1971, but unfortunately, his party, the Vishal Haryana Party, did not perform well in the election.

In 2009, Chetan Sharma ran for the Faridabad seat on a BSP ticket, however, he finished in third place.

Gautam Gambhir, who won the East Delhi constituency in 2019 on a BJP ticket,  announced his decision to step away from politics ahead of 2024 elections.

Mohammad Kaif ran as a candidate for the Congress party in the Phulpur constituency during the 2014 elections, but unfortunately, he was unsuccessful in securing a seat.

Mohammad Azharuddin, a former Congress candidate, emerged victorious in the 2009 elections in Moradabad. However, he faced defeat in the 2014 elections in Tonk.

Anurag Thakur, the Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, will be the Bharatiya Janata Party's candidate from Hamirpur in the upcoming elections.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, a former member of the BJP, emerged victorious in the bypolls of 2004 and 2007 in Amritsar, as well as in the general elections of 2009.
