Ashwin needs 14 wickets more in the upcoming Test series to break Australia’s Nathan Lyon’s landmark record of 187 wickets and become the bowler with the most wickets in World Test Championship (WTC) history. Currently, Ashwin has 174 Test wickets to his name.

Ashwin currently has 42 wickets to his name in the 2023-2025 cycle of WTC. He needs 10 wickets more to surpass Australian bowler Josh Hazlewood as the leading wicket-taker in this WTC campaign. Hazlewood tops the list with 51 wickets.

Ashwin is just one five-wicket haul away to go past Lyon's tally of 10 five-wicket hauls and become the only player to top the elite list.
