New Zeland spinner Rachin Ravindra wascertainly the element of surprise in World Cup 2023.
Rachin Ravindra broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring most runs in a single edition of the ODI World Cup before turning 25 during the match against Sri Lanka in Bengaluru on Thursday.
Rachin went past Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 523 runs at the 1996 World Cup, when the legend was 23 years old.
Prior to the World Cup, he bowled for New Zealand and batted in the lower order. However, in his debut World Cup match against England, Rachin scored a century.
Rachin has scored 550 runs in the World Cup so far and has also taken 5 wickets, making him only the third player in ODI World Cup history to do so.
In 2019, Bangladesh's Shakib Al Hasan had scored 606 runs and taken 11 wickets.
Sri Lanka's Tillakaratne Dilshan had scored 500 runs and taken 8 wickets in 2011.
