Sachin Tendulkar has played six World Cups for India but never captained the team in any of the World Cups. Mohammed Azharuddin was the captain of India when Sachin played his first World Cup in 1992.
Virender Sehwag captained India in 12 ODIs but never captained India during the World Cup. Although he was a full-time vice-captain, during the captaincy of MS Dhoni at the 2011 World Cup.
Sunil Gavaskar was a full-time captain in Tests and ODIs, but he never served as captain in any World Cups, despite being a member of the team in 1975, 1979, 1983, and 1987.
Bishan Singh Bedi was a full-time Test captain for two years in which India won six matches out of 22. But never captained during any of the World Cups. He was the deputy of Srinivasaraghavan Venkataraghavan in the 1975 World Cup game.
