The IPL Auction 2024 was held on 19 December 2023 at the Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. This year’s auction witnessed some record-breaking bids and now teams are all set to play with their respective squads in the upcoming IPL 2024.

Chennai Super Kings (CSK) led by MS Dhoni has been one of the most successful teams in IPL history. Under Dhoni’s guidance, the team won 5 IPL titles (2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023).

Going with a remaining purse of Rs 31.40 crore, CSK bought six players in the IPL Auction 2024. Among star players like Rachin Ravindra and Shardul Thakur that they managed to buy, they also failed in winning the bidding war for other impactful players.

Here’s the list of players that CSK bid for but failed to buy them.

Pat Cummins

CSK started the bid for Australia captain, Pat Cummins and were engaged in a bidding war with Mumbai Indians. CSK’s final bid for Cummins ended at Rs 7.6 crore. However, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) emerged victorious in the bidding war and bought Cummins for Rs 20.5 crore, becoming first ever player in IPL Auction to surpass Rs 20-crore mark.

Alzarri Joseph

CSK opened the bid for Alzarri and were in a bidding war with Delhi Capitals (DC). After Alazarri price went beyond Rs 3 crore, CSK wasn’t willing to break bank and as a result, Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) bought the West Indies pacer for a massive sum of Rs 11.5 crore.

Gerald Coetzee

CSK looked eager to buy Coetzee in IPL auction 2024, but they were not ready to buy him for more than Rs 3.2 crore. Coetzee eventually went to Mumbai Indians for Rs 5 crore.

Travis Head

Before IPL Auction 2024, Travis head was expected to get a record-breaking bid in the auction. But in reality, he went to SRH for a sum of Rs 6.80 crore. SRH opened the bidding, joined by CSK. The two teams engaged in a firy bidding war for a long time but CSK conceded defeat and the Orange Army successfully acquired the services of Head.
