Top 10 ICC rankings: Meet four teams that have never won ODI World Cup

The first ODI World Cup was hosted by England in June 1975 in which eight teams participated. Since then, ODI World Cups have become a major event where the best cricket teams from all across the world compete to win the coveted trophy.

Over the years, only six teams have won the tournament. The first two editions were won by the West Indies. Then India won the World Cup in 1983 and later in 2011 as well. Australia has won the ICC ODI World Cup maximum times (1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2015). Whereas Sri Lanka, England, and Pakistan have only won once.

However there are several other strong teams as well that have never won a single edition of the ICC ODI World Cup. So ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023, these are the four teams under the top 10 team ODI rankings that have never won the World Cup trophy.

New Zealand is one of the strongest cricket teams that has never won a single edition of the ODI World Cup. They currently hold the 6th spot in the ICC ODI team rankings. In the last two editions, 2019 and 2015, they also reached the finals but ended up losing to Australia and England respectively.

Another strong team in the upcoming ODI World Cup that has never taken the trophy home. South Africa is currently holding the 4th spot in the ranking. They also hosted the World Cup in 2003. However, they are yet to win the coveted trophy of the biggest cricket tournament.

Bangladesh that currently holds the 7th spot in the rankings have never won the ODI Cricket World Cup since they first qualified in 1999.

In comparison to the other teams, Afghanistan has participated in the tournament less. The team was first qualified for the ODI cricket world cup in 2015 and since then, they are yet to take the trophy back home. As of now, their current ODI team ranking is 9th.
