Skinks have transparent eyelids that let them see even when their eyes are closed. This evolutionary feature enables these animals to see while burrowing and eating insects underneath the surface.

Chameleons can see with their eyes closed because of a small hole in the center of their eyelid.

Snakes don't have eyelids in the first place. Their eyes are covered by transparent scales. In effect, their eyes are always closed, and yet they can see fine.

Oriental Bay Owl's huge black eyes also have white lids with slits that allow them to literally see with their eyes closed.

Octopus skin contains light-sensitive pigment and chromatophores, which are distributed throughout their skin. This means that an octopus can “see” or detect light with its skin, even when blindfolded.
