The McDonnell Douglas DC-10 aircraft carrying Turkish Airlines Flight 981 crashed in France on March 3, 1974. The crash claimed the lives of 346 people.

In 2014, a plane carrying 298 people from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia Airlines Flight 17 (MH17), was shot down in the Ukraine.

In 2009, Air France Flight 447, which was carrying 228 people, went down. The aircraft vanished over the Atlantic Ocean while it was travelling from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Paris.

In 2023, a Nepalese ATR 72 plane crashed shortly before it was scheduled to land in the popular Pokhara city, killing all 72 passengers.

Out of the 524 people aboard, 520 perished in the crash of Japan Airlines flight 123 from Tokyo to Osaka on August 12, 1985.

349 people were killed when Kazakhstan Airlines Flight 1907 and Saudia Flight 763 from Delhi to Dhahran collided in midair in 1996 over the city of Charkhi Dadri.

US Airways Flight 191 went down in Chicago on May 25, 1979. With 273 fatalities, it continues to be the deadliest aviation accident in US history.

In 1985, 329 people were killed when Air India Flight 182, which was travelling from Canada to India via London, exploded off the coast of Ireland.
