Khajuraho temples are a group of Hindu and Jain temples, located in the Chhatarpur district of Madhya Pradesh.
The temples at Khajuraho were built by the rulers of the Chandella dynasty between the 950 AD and 1050 AD centuries.
These temples are over 1000 years old.
Historical records reveal that the Khajuraho temple site had 85 temples by the 12th century, spread over 20 square kilometers.
But today only about 23 temples are left, spread over an area of six square kilometers.
In 1986, the Khajurao temples were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1986.
