Animals that sleep with their eyes open

Apurwa Amit

Fish: Most fish do not have eyelids, so they can't close their eyes, leading them to appear as if they are always awake.

Reptiles: Many reptiles, including snakes and lizards, sleep with their eyes open because they have a protective scale called a spectacle that covers their eyes instead of eyelids.

Octopuses: These cephalopods can sleep with their eyes open, as they don’t have eyelids. They can also change colors while resting.

Crocodiles: While they can close their eyes, crocodiles often sleep with them partially open, allowing them to remain aware of their surroundings.

Horses: They can sleep with their eyes open, as they have a unique ability to rest while standing, thanks to their locking mechanism in their legs.

Turtles: Many turtles can sleep with their eyes open, as they have a protective membrane that covers their eyes.

Dolphins: They sleep with one hemisphere of their brain at a time, allowing them to keep one eye open and stay aware of their environment.
