Five animals who surprisingly eat their young 

 Here are five animals known to eat their young in power struggles or competition or situations when they feel threatened. 

1. Spiders: Certain spider species, such as the black widow, eat their young after mating in order to gain nutrition to support their eggs. 

2. Lions: Surprising as it may sound, lions consume cubs that aren't their own, often out of pride or in power struggles.  

3. Chimpanzee: Particularly in competitive situations, chimpanzees kill and eat babies of other chimps. 

4. Black bear: Black bears sometimes eat their own cubs when in distress, or feel threatened. 

5. Hamsters: Mother hamsters are known to eat their babies when they feel threatened or babies are sick or weak.
