Heeramandi is a neighbourhood and bazaar located in the Walled City of Lahore, Pakistan.
Heeramandi came into existence due to Hira Singh Dogra, the prime minister of the Sikh Kingdom of Lahore.
Hira Singh decided to establish a grain market there. Once the grain market was set up, the tawaif quarters of Heeramandi also became more popular.
The tawaifs were professional entertainers and associated with the royal court.
They were trained in classical music, Kathak and mujra dance.
The tawaifs of Heeramandi attracted the patronage of royals and nobles.
