Shah Jahan was the 5th Mughal emperor, reigning from 1628 until 1658. During his reign, Mughals reached the peak of their architectural cultural achievements.

He commissioned many monuments, including the Red Fort, Shah Jahan Mosque and the Taj Mahal, where his favorite consort Mumtaz Mahal is entombed.

Shah Jahan's love for Mumtaz was profound and unwavering.

They first met in Agra's Meena Bazaar, and Shah Jahan fell madly in love at first sight with Mumtaz.

Mumtaz Mahal died while giving birth to their 14th child. Her death deeply affected Shah Jahan.

On her deathbed, Shah Jahan promised Mumtaz Mahal to build the most beautiful mausoleum in her memory, which led to the creation of the Taj Mahal.
