The Himalayas are pictured from the International Space Station (ISS) as it orbited 261 miles above. Himalayas are home to the South Asian nations of Nepal and Bhutan, and with Lakes Mansarovar and Rakshastal on the Chinese side.

Snow covers the Coast Mountains like meringue, highlighting the various peaks of the rugged terrain as the ISS orbits miles above the South coast of British Columbia.⁣

Space-based pictures of Himalayas give glimpses of breathtaking view of mountains

The Himalayas, separating the Indian subcontinent from the Asian continent, are pictured from the ISS as it orbited 257 miles above northern India

In the top half of the image, many of the lakes show tinges of blue-green that likely indicate microscopic plant life.

This image shows bright city lights of New Delhi, India, and Lahore, Pakistan, glowing under orange-line atmospheric particles reacting to solar radiation.⁣

The Himalayas are the result of 50 million years of collisions between the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.⁣
