Hum, a tiny medieval town in western Croatia, is considered one of the smallest towns in the world.

It sits at an elevation of 349 metres near the Mirna River, with a population that rose from 30 in 2011 to 52 in 2021.

The town is about 100 metres long and 30 metres wide, with one gateway, two alleys, and 20 buildings.

Key landmarks include a castle, watchtower, and two churches – St Jerome (12th century) and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary (1802).

St Jerome's church has frescos and ancient Croatian Glagolitic writings on its walls.

Hum's western side is enclosed by walls, while houses are built into its defensive structure on the other sides.

Historically, Hum was part of the Duchy of Aquileia and later annexed by Italy before being returned to Croatia after World War Two.

The town's economy is driven by tourism and agriculture, with friendly residents welcoming visitors.
